Giveaway and Review: Swirleys Hair Accessories

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. CONGRATULATIONS TO MICHELE!
Today's giveaway is sponsored by Shirley from the Etsy shop, Swirleys. Swirleys features a well-thought-out system of crocheted cotton flowers that snap onto all of the headbands (both crocheted and satin) and purses that Shirley makes.

Shirley sent me a set of Swirleys including one satin and one crocheted headband and several mix-and-match flowers, for my girls to review. Here is 8½-year-old Chloë, wearing the three separately-snapped-on Forget-Me-Nots on the satin headband. The Forget-Me-Nots were her favorites of all the flowers we received, but she loved them all!

(Forgive her messy hair; she'd just come home from swimming at Girl Scout camp!)

Here is five-year-old Sophia modeling the big and beautiful Gerbera daisy, also on the satin band. Each headband features three large "male" snaps, with the corresponding "female" snaps on the flowers. The large flowers, such as this one, have two snaps to hold them onto the headbands, with a space in the middle.

The Forget-Me-Nots each have one snap. All the snaps are carefully sewn on by hand. On the back of the Forget-Me-Nots, Shirley has glued on felt to reinforce the flowers and protect them from "fiddling fingers"; this also prevents the petals from curling.

As you can see in this picture, Shirley has also cleverly included a place-holder snap in her flower sets. This is a snap covered in felt, meant for placement on the middle snap when a larger flower is in use, to keep the empty "male" snap from showing though the flower. Brilliant! I received two such place-holders. They are very sturdy and strong; even though my girls have put the Swirleys system through a great deal of use in the week that we have been trying them out, nothing has shown any signs of wear and tear.

Here, Chloë is wearing the yellow Four-Tiered Flower that Shirley sent to us. It is one of the larger flowers; I have a place-holder covered snap underneath.

All three of us (Sophia, Chloë and I) have been wearing the Swirleys headbands extensively over the last week. We all prefer the satin headbands over the crocheted ones, but for different reasons. Sophia likes that they are shiny and smooth. (Hey, she's five, y'all.) Chloë insists they are much more comfortable. I agree with both their reasons, and also, they look more professional to me and have a Swirleys label sewn in that I like.

I wore the satin headband for hours and hours one night, and although most headbands (even soft ones like these) quickly give me a headache, I didn't have any such problems with the Swirleys band. I even wore my Swirleys headband and flower out in the middle of the night for a late-night Coke run to 7-Eleven, and I was quite the stylin' mama! Hee.

Lastly, we received a huge, orange Royal Rose, also crocheted. It looked great with Sophia's coloring and was perhaps her favorite flower of the bunch. (Mine was the Gerbera Daisy, but all three of us liked all of the flowers very much.)

All-in-all, we found this to be a very fun system of hair accessories for little girls - and their mamas too, why not? - and happily recommend them to you and yours. The only thing I wish I had was a matching bag to put them all in, since I don't want them mixed up with the rest of the girls' (many, many) "hair doodles," as we call them.

Maybe I'll just have to pick up one of these cute little handbags that are also part of the Swirleys system! This one is on sale today, as part of Shirley's half-price birthday sale going on all month. (Today is Shirley's birthday; happy birthday, Shirley!)

Another fun part of the Swirleys system is the business card holder, shown above. A Forget-Me-Not attaches to the front and can be switched out with other ones. How fun!

I really like the Swirleys system of flowers and headbands, and I definitely plan to add to the girls' collection of flowers in the future. Chloë, my little girly-girl, especially loves to choose the flower that matches each day's outfit; even tomboy Sophia has fun switching out all the flowers and will occasionally let me get a headband on her. (I wish she'd keep them on; they look so pretty on her!)

Sophia modeling the Big Bloom in red, white and blue - guess what was worn yesterday, for Independence Day??
